“When Autumn Leaves Start to Fall …” it means that mornings are cool, some of them cold! What some folks “miss most of all” then is having a nice warm coat, or even a heavy sweater or hoodie. During September and October, MWPC will be collecting jackets, coats, sweaters, hoodies, and other warm outerwear. That includes gloves, mittens, hats, and scarves. All sizes are accepted in the outerwear drive. If you prefer to donate new articles, those are welcome, too. They will be shared with the three organizations in our area benefiting those in need: SEM, the Batavia Y, and East End clothing distribution.
The Garden Project is going strong! Currently we are approaching the total production of last year’s 2008 growing season, and we hope to surpass that total handily! Thanks to our dedicated volunteers, we have been producing salad greens, green onions, cucumbers, squash, tomatoes, green beans, carrots, turnips, broccoli, eggplant, beets, sweet peppers, jalapenos, dill, and basil. These make a nice addition to the canned goods and staples that our clients at the SEM Pantry receive. If you have an excess of fresh items from your garden, you can share them with the SEM food Pantry, too. Bring them to the refrigerator in the church kitchen and place them in the lower left side of the refrigerator, clearly marked SEM Pantry. If you’d like to help with the garden project, please do so! We expect to be growing through mid-October! Usual work time is Monday evening at 7:00 pm. No previous experience is necessary. There are folks available to answer questions and provide guidance. If you would like to work at a different time of the week, that can be arranged. Please contact Mary Lou Harris for details.
Now that we have all settled into our schedule for the fall season, did you remember to allot some time for serving dinner at the Drop-Inn Center? MWPC serves dinner on the second Thursday and the third Tuesday of each month. Those who serve meet in the church parking lot and carpool to the location. Sign-up sheets are available in the Mission Center.
The mystery item for January is canned Tuna. Items can be brought to the Mini-Mission House in the Mission Center, next to the sanctuary. Remember that the “mystery item” is something that the food pantries cannot purchase through their regular channels using a volume discount.
Boy Scouts
In 2008, Boy Scout Troop 112 celebrated its 85th anniversary.
For 68 of those years, Mt. Washington Presbyterian Church has
been our chartering organization. This makes us one of the largest supporting charters in Cincinnati.
Boy Scout Troop 112 continues to demonstrate it’s practice of
the Boy Scout oath and law, including Duty to God and Country,
to help other people at all times, and teaching boys to be:
Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient,
Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent.
The Boy Scouts is a very effective youth outreach program that
endeavors to develop young boys into men of character. In 2007,
we launched a new Venture Crew for girls age 14-21. Today,
we have approximately 100 registered Scouts and over 40
registered adult Leaders, including many families from MWPC.
We strive to keep the program meaningful to meet the needs
of youth at different ages. Our goal is to make a difference in
the lives of many young men and women as well as the
community where we live. We are grateful that each week
we have the blessing to gather and develop our Boy Scouts
and Venture Crew. We continue our mission to focus on the
ongoing growth and development of Boy Scouts and Venture
Crew as we teach them to “Be Prepared” for life.
Boy Scout Troop 112 meets weekly at MWPC, on Tuesdays, from
7-8:30pm. For more information contact Boy Scout Master
Randy Bachman.
